For our jewellery extension "WJewellery.co", the artist Winnie carefully chooses solid silver wire as her main material, including 925 Sterling Silver and 999 Fine Silver. Precious metal is difficult to work with, suitable for experienced artist. Learn more about different wire materiality.
(frame #1)
For a richer materiality, Winnie often integrate natural gemstones and Swarovski crystal in her wire jewellery.
(frame #2)
The essential tool for Winnie to create wire artworks are pliers. Her basic kit includes the long-nose pliers, the round pliers and the cutter.
(frame #3)
Besides pliers, other tools are equally important in the design and making process, such as pen for sketching, and ruler for measurement.
(frame #4)
Drawing of arches, influenced by the artist’s architectural background.
She adopts prior knowledge from textile art and architecture, presenting beauty in continuity with her unique sense of aesthetics.
(frame #5)
Design process often take place during the actual making. The artist tried out variations by physically modelling the earrings in order to test both the crystal colour and the structure.
(frame #6 原型)
By sketching various options, e.g. geometry, wire thickness, fixing method etc., the artist aims to find out her best solution. Usually takes a long way to narrow down the numerous possibilities; going back and forth between sketching and prototype making.
(frame #7 靈感)
An unfinished Arch Earring to demonstrate the making process: securing Swarovski crystals with the thin 999 fine silver wire, onto the main structure frame made of 925 sterling silver.
(frame #8 途中)
The design is usually documented in the sketchbook after being confirmed with the prototype modelling. It forms Winnie’s original ”recipe” to recreate the same design in the future.
(frame #9 記錄)
The final piece of our Arch Earrings is derived from the constant struggle in the design process, where the artist Winnie continuously strives for perfection.
(frame #10 完成)
Developing from the fundamental gesture of Arch Earrings, Winnie creates a variation to form the bracelet charm by increasing its radius, resembling a gentle smile. The artist then expands this into a full collection named Arch - see frame #13.
